what a choice.

The Kanchi Varadaraja temple has a vimana, which is called Punyakoti vimana. When you perform a good deed, you acquire some punya. If you do the same good deed in the vicinity of the Punyakoti vimana, then the punya you acquire gets multiplied by a crore. In other words, instead of just one punya accruing to you, a crore punyas come to you! So, visiting temples is a simple option for those who have not learnt mantras, said Velukkudi Krishnan in a discourse. We must learn to respect four things, namely the Vedas, the angas of the Vedas, dharma Sastras, and the Puranas.
One reason for Vedic recitation to be organised in homes is that the very sound of the Vedic mantras has a good effect on everyone present, and also makes the dwelling place auspicious. We are purified by mantras. At the end of a yaga, purnahuti is offered. Purnahuti means offering oblations with fire to the deities. The smoke of the fire is sacred. In Pancharatra Raksha, Vedanta Desika says that if one recites the Gayatri mantra, he gets whatever benefits one gets through purnahuti. The Gayatri is the mother of all Vedic mantras. It is the essence of the Vedas. We must learn mantras through an Acharya. Seeking their feet guarantees moksha to us.
Once, when Vaishnava Acharya Nampillai was about to give a discourse on Thiruvaimozhi, he noticed a lady seated where his sishyas should have been. The lady said that if she had to leave, then Nampillai would have to give her the place she sought. Nampillai asked her to write down the place she wanted to be in. She wrote ‘Sri Vaikuntha,’ and handed the palm leaf to Nampillai. He affixed his signature, guaranteeing her what she wanted. The next minute, the lady died and attained moksha. Such is the power of an Acharya’s word.

Anna. 
Only in Karnataka and especially Mysore Tamilian's have the habit of calling their father Anna. 
There is no script for this language they read and write Kanada so also in Gujarat Father is referred to as Kaka or Kaku. meaning uncle here to they speak katchi which has no script they read and write Gujarathi only for the speaking dialect is used. , in bengali too they say dada for father.

So Anna he was for all of us I remember his friends had come home and /Father was in the last room upstairs and we children were busy playing in the courtyard downstairs near the fountain besides the children making noise the noise from the water fountain in the center of the house the sparrows chirping etc. the watchman comes and says chote saab ke dost ayehai baby papa ko bula lau so i scream anna your friends have come can you please come down. we had a very impressive visitors sitting room downstairs usually the watchman dare not enter it to come to the other door quiet close by leading to the stairways upstairs and the beautiful courtyard. but that day he did venture as probably all were busy with the Bhagvath sapta on that week. My fathers friends mistook me for his sister and referred to me as his sister he laughingly corrected them saying she is my third daughter. Anna looked very young for his age even after the four of us were born he could pass off as a handsome bachelor. He was very quick on his feet and meticulously clean and orderly stickler for keeping things in its place. my younger sister has this habit from him i suppose. his own books clothes were last attended to he would see that all our books were properly covered he did this himself would type out the labels giving full details of name class subject school all neatly piled so was our uniform neatly ironed and piled up ready for school the next day our shoes polished with the socks yes only he would fold the socks up so neatly we had to just slip into them and pull the end up no great issue even with closed eyes we could be sure it would be right and perfect (folded at the heel on the right side the wrong side coming up all the way and inserted into the shoes) On Fridays it used to be the sports white all well polished  set out in age order. that was the only discipline other of course was time to stop play and get to serious study. no matter what we had to be back home at that hour i think it was 6 pm. 
Anna's English was excellent. he loved pitman's short hand and tried to teach us short hand when wewere in college. i was so impressed that i enrolled in a typing institute to learn typing. yes i did go for the exam but was mesmerized with the music created by all the type writers in that huge big darbar hall of the womens college (where I studied later)that i gave in my paper after the time limit only quater finished. I did not care i was not secretary material more the boss type. My grand daughter says pati dont boss me when i sit with her for her online school these days.
Anna  even for that matter Tatha never drove the car he preferred his office chuffer driven car we had two drivers one Ambassador for Tatha to go to the mills and one morris minor for the children to be dropped off to school and other classes etc. I enrolled in all types of classes tailoring classes cook/baking classes typing classes driving classes Bhagvad gita classes dancing classes. I was the only one who worked before i got married and i went the gov way enrolling in employment exchange getting a job through them i preferred doing things on my own no recommendations. i did land up a job at the high court and got a preferred placement too people used to ask me how come i got into the specials department where people were selected only after experience and selections were made only after the persons were tested. we had to take a special oath that what we did was never reveled to any one outside of work. anna was proud that i had got that job. 
Anna was fond of listening to carnatic music which were broadcast on the radio late into the night on week ends. He never ever absented himself from work or other duties people loved him for that a very depended person its over nearly 35 years now we lost him. he did miss out on seeing how our life turned out to be he did of course play with all his grand children took them to parks to play etc. 


work was worship with him nothing could come in the way of his work. even before the English transliteration was available he had made all of us copies of all the stotras Vishnu Sahasranama and all the regularly recited ones on Fridays, on special paper and bound the book made it light. yes he took great pains to cut and bind rough sheets from the paper rolls we had from western  paper mills one uncle used to work there and he used to send us the paper rolls all revision and maths was practiced on those sheets good quality paper. 
another luxury was biscuits one uncle had biscuit retail shop he used to send us big 16 kg tins of  Parle biscuits assorted we would not have finished from the previous batch and a new set of boxes would arrive when ever the car happened to go to his shop on some other errand. playing with cousins and friends in that huge mansion of a house it was special nobody can forget those days. a special bond was created. i always had the best of everything in life and many envied me for that. to this day its been like that. i was the last to leave as i was the last to be married off my younger sister too got married before me. 

Anna enjoyed light music too. for on some saturdays when we used to have the weaving masters three sons come over and play light music and all the mill managers and their family members would assemble for dinner and he used to make small request slips of his favorite songs for them to play and get us to go and give it to them i realized how much he liked hindi songs.
Anna also helped in our business when he came visiting us he used to say i have four daughters i will stay three months in each of your houses he offered going to go to the bank to deposit the cheque which used to come by mail those days. that was the only visit to my house. for a month and a half i think. Mom visited me only thrice.

ādityaṃ prekśhya japtvā tu paraṃ harśhamavāptavān |
trirāchamya śuchirbhūtvā dhanurādāya vīryavān ‖ 29 ‖

rāvaṇaṃ prekśhya hṛśhṭātmā yuddhāya samupāgamat |
sarvayatnena mahatā vadhe tasya dhṛtoabhavat ‖ 30 ‖

adha raviravadan-nirīkśhya rāmaṃ muditamanāḥ paramaṃ prahṛśhyamāṇaḥ |
niśicharapati saṅkśhayaṃ viditvā suragaṇa madhyagato vachastvareti ‖ 31 ‖

ityārśhe śrīmadrāmāyaṇe vālmikīye ādikāvye yuddakāṇḍe saptottara śatatamaḥ sargaḥ ‖


 By reciting Aditya Hridaya Stotra lord Sri Rama killed Ravana and achieved Victory. 2. "Tejaskamo Vibhavasum" people desirous of Tejas-Aura around them, have to recite Aditya Hridaya Stotra. This is stated in Bhagavata. 3. By the grace of Bhagavan Surya Kunti Devi was blessed with Karna and the Monkey Rurajasa with Sugreeva, as sons. 4. Satrajit obtained Syamantaka-mani by worshipping Surya. 
2. 5. Dharma Raja obtained Akshaya patra by worshipping Lord Surya and he used to entertain his guests with this wish yielding bowl. 6. "Dinesam Sukhardham" It is stated in Skanda purana that one has to pray to Surya Bhagavan for happiness and welfare. 7. The Samba purana declared that Samba the son of Jambavati could get himself cured of his leprosy by worshipping Lord Surya. 8. Mayurabhatta could make his body a diamond wise and became free from disease.

3. Aditya Hridayam - The Heart of Aditya (the Sun God) - Sundara Khanda, Valmiki Ramayanam Aditya = the Sun God; Hridayam = that which is especially nourishing and healing for the heart. Sage Agasthya Muni gave this powerful Mantra to Sri Rama when Rama was perplexed, while fighting with Ravana. After chanting this Hymn three times Sri Rama defeated Ravana. The Aditya Hridayam, is a hymn in glorification of the Sun or Surya and was recited by the great sage Agastya to Lord Rama on the battlefield before fighting with Ravana. This historic hymn starts at the beginning of the Battle with Ravana, when Lord Rama is fatigued and getting ready to fight. The mystical hymn is directed to the Sun God, the illustrious lord of all victories.

The alwars too have been associated with their closeness to the water bodies river etc.
Karabhajana was one of the nava yogiswaras, who answered King Nimi’s questions. This conversation between Nimi and Karabhajana finds a place in Srimad Bhagavatam, said P.T. Seshadri in a discourse. Karabhajana describes Vishnu’s forms in different yugas and explains how He was worshipped in the many yugas. Karabhajana says that in Kali yuga, Vishnu is worshipped through nama sankirtana. Many sages who lived in Krita Yuga want to be born in Kali Yuga as Vishnu bhaktas, so that they can sing the praises of Vishnu. Nimi asks Karabhajana, where these bhaktas will be born.

Karabhajana says that they will be born in Dravida desa, on the banks of the Tamraparani, on the banks of the Vaigai, on the banks of the Palar and on the banks of west flowing rivers. Here it is clear that Karabhajana was predicting the birth of the Azhvars. Periyazhvar and Andal appeared on the banks of the Vaigai; Nammazhvar and Madhurakavi on the banks of the Tamraparani; Tondaradippodi Azhvar, Tirumangai Azhvar and Thiruppanazhvar on the banks of the Cauvery; Poigai Azhvar, Bhootatazhvar, Peyazhvar and Thirumazhisai Azhvar on the banks of the Palar and Kulasekara Azhvar in the South Western region — Kerala. Thus, the appearance of the Azhvars in Tamil Nadu and Kerala was predicted in the Bhagavata Purana, and as foreseen, the Azhvars appeared on the banks of the rivers mentioned in the Purana. Karabhajana also predicts that these devotees would not desire anything but His mercy. Every individual is born with three debts — debts to devas, rishis and one’s ancestors. Hari bhaktas are released from these three debts, says Srimad Bhagavatam. King Nimi learned about Bhagavata dharma and about the worship of Vishnu from the nava yogisvaras. After they advised Nimi, the nine yogis disappeared.

Book eleven of Srimadbhagvata is considered by the saints to be the book dedicated to devotion. The book contains graphic picture of divine spiritual precept delivered by Lord Krishna to his devotee-friend Uddhava. Besides, dialogue between Sri Vasudeva and Sri Narada King Nimi and Nava Yogishwara are also included therein . The book also contains the historical story of the twenty-four preceptors of Avadhuta. 

Lord Rishabh Dev is one of the 24 incarnations of Lord Narayana. Of his 100 sons, 9 of his sons became masters of the knowledge of the self and hence were called Yogeshwar. There names respectively are:

Hari, Kavi, Antariksh, Prabuddh, Pippalaayan, Aavirhotr,Drumil, Chamas, Tatha, Karabhaajan

Once the Suryavanshi King Nimi had a discussion and had put some questions to the Yogeshwaras, which were answered well by the Yogeswaras. This dialogue is the so-called Nimi-Navyogeshwar dialogue.

The questions that were put up to them are as follows: –

  • What is the nature of ultimate welfare and what is its means?
  • Describe the character of Bhagavadbhakt (Devotee). What is his religion and what is his nature?
  • How does he behave while dealing with humans? What does he talk and what is the trait that makes him lovable by the almighty God?
  • What is the manifestation of the Maya form of Lord Vishnu?
  • What is the solution to get beyond Maya?
  • What is the nature and form of the God who is described as the Supreme Lord Narayana? What is he responsible for?
  • Describe the ‘leelas’ (performances) of God, that has been done, is still doing and will be doing.
  • How does the life unfold for the people with unfulfilled wishes, have cravings for cosmic and extravagant pleasures, have no control on there senses and mind, and who often do not worship God?
  • At what time does the Lord assume forms, and with what names are these forms worshipped?

Karabhājana Muni addresses King Nimi and says, "My dear King, a person who has given up the worship of the demigods and has completely concentrated his energy in the devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead has become very, very dear to the Lord. As such, if by chance or mistake he does something which is forbidden, there is no need for him to perform any purificatory ceremonies.

There are many other sages, like Śaṅkarācārya, Gautama Muni, Nārada Muni, etc., to whom we are indebted because we take advantage of their knowledge. Similarly, we are obliged to our forefathers because we take our birth in a particular family, where we take all advantages and inherit property. Therefore, we are indebted to the forefathers and have to offer them piṇḍa (prasādam) after they are dead. Similarly, to the people in general we are also indebted, as well as to our relatives, friends and even animals such as cows and dogs who render us so much service.

In this way, we are indebted to the demigods, to the forefathers, to the sages, to the animals and to society in general. It is our duty to repay them all by proper discharge of service. But by the one stroke of devotional service, if someone gives up all obligations and simply surrenders unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he is no longer a debtor, nor obliged to any other source of benefit.

In the Bhagavad-gītā also the Lord says: "Give up all your occupations and just become surrendered unto Me. I give you assurance that I shall give you protection from all sinful reactions." One may think that because he is surrendering unto the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he will not be able to perform all of his other obligations. But the Lord says repeatedly, "Don't hesitate. Don't consider that because you are giving up all other engagements there will be some flaw in your life. Don't think like that. I will give you all protection." That is the assurance of Lord Kṛṣṇa in the Bhagavad-gītā.

There is additional evidence in the Agastya-saṁhitā: "As the regulative principles of scripture are not required by a liberated person, similarly a person who is engaged duly in the service of Lord Rāmacandra is also not required to discharge the ritualistic principles which are indicated in the Vedic supplimentaries." In other words, the devotees of Lord Rāmacandra, or Kṛṣṇa, are already liberated persons and are not required to follow all the regulative principles mentioned in the ritualistic portions of the Vedic literature.

Similarly, in the Eleventh Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, 5th Chapter, Karabhājana Muni addresses King Nimi and says, "My dear King, a person who has given up the worship of the demigods and has completely concentrated his energy in the devotional service of the Supreme Personality of Godhead has become very, very dear to the Lord. As such, if by chance or mistake he does something which is forbidden, there is no need for him to perform any purificatory ceremonies. Because the Lord is situated within his heart, He takes compassion for the devotee's accidental mistake and corrects him from within." It is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā in many places that the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, takes a special interest in His devotees and declares emphatically that nothing can cause His devotees to fall down. He is always protecting them.






Almost all temples are situated close to a water body or a few kms away. when we first moved into this house way back in 2005 i was glad that we had a terrific view of the sea as our house was situated on the mouth of the river bed where the river adayar meets the sea. soon we had a good family friend Suresh who got us the idol of thayar made to order from Kumbakonam. what a blessing it turned out to be at the official house warming when we had the Sudarshan Homa preceding the house warming, The great devotee Malola Kannan got his almost 300 year old  Perumal idol to pair with our Thayar how blessed we felt. But after the festivities he took his Perumal back and I missed the Lord. by the grace of Thayar she found her pair at the cottage industries exhibition where our Perumal was. the Lord seemed to enjoy himself and blessed us plenty with little hurdles we crossed many a testing time but the larger picture was the joys and blessings which came rolling in. after the initial tension of friends and relatives telling us the old house was good etc as Narsim fell ill soon after we moved to this house. we who did not believe in Vastu got the vastu for the house read and were told it had a very good vastu and that only good would follow and so it did. our climb and joys took multi leaps and we saw in a couple of years the children married business growing and general joy and happiness multiplying leaps and bounds but before every major change there was a equal fearful period of gloom. but some how we seemed to have breezed through all the troubles that looked or loomed large today in the great canvas of life those gloomy periods were only stepping stones to the great joy that was behind. it taught us important lessons in life to lie low till the tide crosses great and happy times must arrive. stay positive and be thankful for what has fallen on your palm/lap etc. The house is a blessing and the Lord seems to like it. previously i had only a single pair of Lord and thayar and saw the Srirangam, Kanchi and Tirumala perumal in the same idol. but they all wanted to be represented here and so it happened through Nandhini and Navnith who decided to move in. Then to live with us came the Lords of Kanchi, Tirumala Melkote and Guruvayur. atleast i mentally think so they are not replicas of these Gods but to my minds eye they seem to represent them she had such beautiful idols that soon they settled into my house she also had a great Mandapam which they had. it looks so grand. Krishna Nathana adinar on Adhisesha which to me is Guruvayur perumal is not in the picture. the Tirumala perumal is flanked on either side by Thayars. the one originally i had is Sriranga perumal with Ranganayaki Thayar. next in height is Kachi Vardaraj perumal with Perundevi thayar. then the sitting Narasimha with Thayar sitting on his lap is Melkote  Narasimha perumal on the little hill the visit a few years ago led us to much happiness. Krishna dancing on adhisesha is a reminder of Guruvayur appan. and each has a smaller utsava murthy. i will not be suprised if the grand children will have perumaland thayar utsavams in the house itself.
