Taj Mahal — A Monument of Love
On the banks of the Yamuna in Agra stands the Taj Mahal, one of India's most celebrated monuments.
Built in the 17th century by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal, it is renowned for its white marble, graceful dome, minarets and intricate decoration.
But the Taj Mahal is not simply beautiful to look at. Its design reflects remarkable attention to symmetry, proportion, geometry and craftsmanship. Precious and semi-precious stones were carefully inlaid into the marble, while the surrounding gardens were planned as part of the overall composition.
Centuries have passed, rulers have changed and the world around it has transformed. Yet the monument continues to draw people from every corner of the world.
The Taj Mahal reminds us that when human emotion finds expression through art and architecture, it can leave a memory that outlives generations.
