Utsavams – When the Lord Comes to Bless His Devotees Introduction
Temple festivals are among the most joyful expressions of Hindu devotion. During Utsavams, the Lord leaves the sanctum in procession to bless all devotees, including those unable to enter the temple.
The Āgamas prescribe these festivals with great care.
Why Festivals?
Festivals remind us that the Lord is not confined to the sanctum. He lovingly comes among His devotees.
The beautifully adorned Utsava Mūrti travels through the streets on various vāhanas, accompanied by Vedic chanting, the Divya Prabandham, music, lamps, and joyous devotees.
Spiritual Significance
Every procession symbolises the Lord's compassion.
The Lord seeks His devotees before they seek Him.
The streets become sacred, homes become blessed, and the entire community shares in divine joy.
