School series 99 Iguazu falls

Iguazu Falls — Where the River Becomes a Symphony

On the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu River suddenly breaks into a vast collection of waterfalls, creating Iguazu Falls, one of the world's great natural spectacles.

Rather than being a single waterfall, Iguazu is a huge system of hundreds of cascades, spread across nearly 3 kilometres. At its most dramatic section, known as the Devil's Throat, enormous quantities of water plunge into the gorge below.

Surrounded by lush subtropical rainforest, the falls are alive with sound, mist, rainbows and movement. The river seems to have transformed itself into an immense natural orchestra.

The falls have also shaped the landscape over geological time, continually changing their channels and edges.

Iguazu reminds us that nature's monuments are never truly finished. They are constantly being created, changed and renewed.
