Chakrath Alwar

Thirumanjanam are also performed at the shrines of Chakrath Alwar, Thiruvananth Alwar and Anjeneyar Sannadhi at Thiruvadi Koil. Not more than 5 donors will be registered for Thirumanjanam in all shrines. Thirumanjanam are performed jointly for administrative convenience.

Thirumajanam Timings

1. Thirumanjanam is performed to Abisheka deity using Panjaper Pooja method. This is Ekanda Pooja.

2. Thirumanjanam to Urchavar (Procession Deity) is performed five times a day and during special festival occasions

3. Thirumanjanam to Varadaraja Perumal (Moolavar) is performed every Friday & during Hustha Star. Darshan is available

4. Thirumanjanam to Perundevi Thayar (Moolavar) is performed every Friday & during Uthiram Star. This is Ekantha Thirumanjanam.

5. Thirumanjanam to Chakrath Alwar (Moolavar) is performed every Saturday - Based on the requests of Public and devotees . Thirumanjanam in these shrines can be performed even on other days also.

A number of Mandapams (Halls) and their pillars at this temple bear testimony to the architectural talents of ancient days. The Hundred pillared Hall constructed during the dynasty of Vijayanagara rulers remain as an exhibition Hall to pilgrims, visitors, historious and connoisseurs of arts.

The columns of Hundred pillared Hall are unparalleled in ‘Single Stone Sculpture Architecture ‘ which consists of the scenes from ancient puranas like Ramayanam, Maha Bharatham, Bhagavat Gita etc.,

More over the stone chains made up of single stones found in various places of temples are best examples to the artistic excellence of our ancestors.

Seeing Garuda in the sky and hearing his voice are considered auspicious. Garuda Bhagavan was born on a Swathi Star Day in the month of Aavani, Sukkila Panchami. Periyalwar, the incarnation of Sri Garuda was also born on the same Swathi Star. This is also the birth star of Lord Narasimhar. The blessings of Garudalwar will help the girls to get married quiclkly. The father of Garuda is Kasiyabar (Son of Mareeshi ) and mother Vinathai (Daughter of Dhakshan). It is customery to look for Sri Garuda during ‘Kumbabishegam’. ‘ Periya Thiruvadi ‘ is the name of Sri Garuda

The Garuda Seva celebrated in Kancheepuram at Arulmigu Devarajaswamy Temple. Brahmotchavam during Vaikasi Vishaka festival is world famous. Lakhs of people throng the Temple. On that day Lord Varadarajar who leaves the temple on Garuda Vahanam (Mount) at 4 ‘o clock in the early morning returns to the temple at noon after giving darshan to devotees.

One devotee by the name Doddacharya lived in the temple town of Sholingar , about 450 years ago, and was engaged in performing kainkaryam to Lord Narashima. He was very attached to Varadar of Kanchipuram. He never used to miss the Garuda sevai of Devathirajan during the Brahmotsavam (held during the tamil month of vaikasi, mid May to mid June). One year due to advanced age was not able to make the trip to Kanchipuram. He was distribuded and on the day of the Garuda sevai got up early in the morning (as the Garuda sevai leaves the temple gates at 5:00 in the morning) and had his bath in Thakkan Kulam (local pond in Sholingar) and the acharya expressed his inability standing on the banks of Thakkankulam and visualised the Lord appearing in Kancheepuram on Garuda Vahanam in all His glory. In five Sanskrit verses, known as Devaraja Panchakam he describes how the Lord, carried by the son of Vinathai (Garuda), would appear at the entrance of the huge tower of the Kancheepuram temple, in all elegance and eagerness to protect His true devotees.

It was Garuda Seva time in Kancheepuram and the temple priest received a divine message that He would disappear from their midst for a few minutes to appear before Doddacharya in Sholingar and He did so. To commemorate this unique event, the Lord's idol, during the Garuda Sevai, is hidden from public view with umbrellas for a few minutes and they are removed after camphor is lit and Harathi is performed to the Lord.

Temple Structure

Sri Devaraja Swamy Temple, popularly known as Sri Varadarajar Temple is situated at the eastern corner of Kancheepuram. Lofty Gopurams and lengthy walls bear testimony to the fame of the temple

East Gopuram			West Gopuram
	The height of East Gopuram is 125 feet; width 99 feet. The height of West Raja Gopuram is 96 feet and width 92.5 feet.

This temple consists five prakarams (Corridors).

Mada Street (Mada Vilagam), Alwar Thiruveethi (or) Alwar pradhakshnam where Sannadhi of Alwars and Achariars are situated.

Separate Shrines for Nammalvar, Manavala Mamuni, Bashyakarar, Vedanta Desikar are in good condition.

Periyalwar, Thondaradi Podi Alwar, Thiruppan Alwar and Thirumangai Alwar have their own shrines. It is told that there was a Sannadhi for Mudhal Alwars. But now it is in a dilapidated condition.

At the outside of the temple there is a separate Sannadhi for Koorath Alwar. To the west of this Shrine is the Sannadhi of Thirukkachi Nambi.

Next Inner Corridor is called “ Yamunai thuraivar Thirumutram “. As the Temple’s kitchen is situated in this Corridor, this is also called as “ Madaipalli Prathakshnam “. The entrance which leads to outer Corridor is known as Thondaradi podi. The Shrine of Arulmigu Perun Devi Thayar is at this Corridor.

The Mirror room where Lord Perumal gives darshan during festival seasons, Abishek Mandapam, Godown for Mounts (Vahanams), Ramar Sannadhi and Thousand pillared Mandapam are situated in this Corridor.
